In November of 2011, a group of energy executives came together with a shared vision to transform the industry by combining their diverse backgrounds, recruiting the best and brightest, and building an incredible company culture focused on helping others.

Our Founding 5ers, Brian Hayduk, Eric Plateis, Jeff Schiefelbein, Jon Moore, and Josh Coleman, successfully recruited a team that includes energy market innovators, analysts, energy advisors, engineers, commodity traders, and technologists, joined together to deliver unparalleled energy advice and solutions for commercial clients. Our desire to disrupt the status quo led to the selection of a one-word, one-syllable name that keeps our team future-focused while also alerting the marketplace to our unique approach and beliefs.

Our name is 5.

The name 5 comes from a variety of business books and leadership lessons but the one book that drove home the final naming decision was Tribal Leadership. The authors describe the 5 levels of a culture and the drivers that propel a group to create a transformative experience for all stakeholders. Our founders took the unique naming to the next level by officially trademarking the digit 5, further proof that we are transcending the noise and instead competing with “what’s possible.”

Today 5 sets the standard for energy advisory firms in North America, providing customized and comprehensive Whole Health Energy Plans to a wide variety of clients. 5 has and continues to receive many of the nation’s most prestigious awards for our growth, leadership, innovation, and culture.
