Giving and Receiving Thanks

November 28, 2022

Written By: Jeff Schiefelbein

THANK YOU for 5 by 5

Thank You.

Why is it so easy to say “thank you” when someone lends us a hand, yet we avoid saying it when we receive a compliment? Instead of showing appreciation, we often deflect that gesture of gratitude.

When we say “thank you” without any conditions or self-deprecation:

  • We accept the gifts of others and better internalize our value.

  • We acknowledge someone’s contribution, often given from a place of vulnerability

  • We encourage open lines of communication for ongoing coaching and feedback

  • We create a better work environment that includes healthy forms of motivation and support

Change your approach this week and pay attention to the results. Say “thank you”, especially when you receive a compliment from someone.
