5 Acquires Legacy Energy, Expanding Our Reach in PJM and MISO

November 4, 2026

Written By: 5

5 has acquired Legacy Energy, a diversified energy management services company based in Warrenton, Virginia. It’s our fourth strategic acquisition, and it widens our ability to bring trusted, data-driven advice to commercial, industrial and public-sector clients across North America.

Meet Legacy Energy

Legacy Energy was founded in 1999 and serves clients throughout the U.S., with a focus on the PJM and MISO markets. Its executive team brings decades of experience across energy markets, demand response, utilities, wholesale power trading, risk management, IPP development and energy procurement.

The firm actively manages more than $300 million a year in natural gas and electricity procurement. Much of that runs through UtiliViz™, Legacy’s proprietary utility data management system.

Why This Matters Right Now

U.S. power demand is projected to rise by 150 to 200 GW over the next five years. For C&I energy buyers, that means clogged interconnection queues, rising rates and shifting regulations.

PJM, Legacy Energy’s home base, is feeling it most. Wholesale power costs there have jumped 46% so far in 2026.

“As energy becomes a growing portion of companies’ operational costs, we are seeing more demand than ever for trustworthy partners who can help clients understand and manage the new complexities of power markets,” said Brian Hayduk, co-founder and CEO of 5. “Legacy Energy has spent years helping clients understand the energy landscape, and the team’s expertise in utility bill management and tariff rate analysis helps us support our clients across even more of their energy needs.”

What Clients Get From the Combined Team

Our energy data platform, Level5, now works alongside Legacy Energy’s UtiliViz™, giving clients sharper market intelligence. Legacy clients also gain 5’s analytics and operational scale, and 5 clients get deeper support in utility bill management, tariff rate analysis, and behind-the-meter services.

“Since our founding in 1999, Legacy has strived to provide best-in-class energy management services to our valued industrial, commercial and multi-family clients. Joining the 5 team strengthens our analytic capabilities and expands behind the meter services we provide to our clients,” said Michael Housley, President of Legacy Energy. “5 embodies our client-first mindset, and I look forward to continuing to provide excellent service, now with the benefits of 5’s cutting-edge technology, expert team, and operational scale.”

The Same Faces Legacy Clients Already Know

The Legacy Energy team, including President Michael Housley and Senior Vice President Thomas Ihrig, will keep serving clients and existing relationships will stay the same.

Part of a Bigger Growth Plan

This is 5’s second acquisition since multi-stage investor Energize Capital made a strategic investment in the company in 2025.
